Bill Nye the Science Guy Makes Fact-Based Plea in New Video About Abortion

Bill Nye the Science Guy is taking his cool, quirky scientist thing to a new level. We might remember him best for his wacky experiments on TV, but now our favorite old-school science geek is getting serious about an important issue: Abortion. This week, he's onscreen again, using straight-up facts to make a polite-but-passionate argument as to why abortion needs to remain safe and accessible for all women: "Many, many, many more hundreds of eggs are fertilized than [those which] become humans...If you're going to say when an egg is fertilized, it therefore has the same rights as an individual, then whom are you going to sue? Whom are you going to imprison? Every woman who's had a fertilized egg pass through her? Every guy whose sperm has fertilized an egg and then it didn't become a human? If all these people failed you? It's just a reflection of a deep scientific lack of understanding." Nye later continues, "At some point we have to respect the facts. Closing abortion clinics...and not giving women access to birth control has not been an effective way to lead to healthier societies...I think we all know that." Watch the full video here: (
